The Lucky 7 Meme: I’ve Been Challenged

Today seems to be challenge day at my blog. There is the WikiRandom Contest and the Lucky 7 Meme, which I have been tagged in by my YA writer/blogger friend Tami Clayton.

Here are the rules to which I must adhere:

1. Go to page 77 of your current MS/WIP
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines, sentences, or paragraphs, and post them as they’re written.
4. Tag 7 authors, and let them know.

So, here it is, admittedly not my favorite part of my work in progress.

Harry’s coughing jag pulls Anna out of her head. She pats his back, forgetting how angry she is, how afraid she is of what might come next. As his cough deepens, he bends over and Anna bends with him, searches his eyes to make sure he is okay. The coughing stops and Harry straightens up. He catches his breath and crushes the cigarette butt under his shoe. When he is upright and in control of himself, Barb comes outside and hands him the large shopping bag full of leftovers.  He reaches out for it but before the bag is fully in his hand, it crashes to the ground.

And finally, I choose the following seven authors to join the Lucky 7 Meme (hopefully they haven’t already been tagged):

1. S.M. Hutchins

2. Elizabeth Fais

3. Nikki McCormack

4. Suzanne Stengl

5. Siri Paulson

6. Susi Nonnemacher

7. Mona Alvarado Frazier

If you have not made it to page 77 yet, you can use page 7, 7th line, 7 lines from there. Looking forward to reading your excerpts!

  1. I would echo the same sentiment you gave me on my Lucky 7 post yesterday: hurry and finish so I can read the whole thing! Loved it. 🙂

  2. Sara, I love how you have set up the physical movement of one character in response to the other, bending as the cougher bends to make sure he is okay. I can see it, because that is so what we do, isn’t it?

  3. Thanks for sharing the excerpt…I enjoyed it.

The problem with reading these things, I’m discovering, is I don’t get to find out what happens next. I suppose I’ll just have to wait patiently 🙂

So what do you think?
